Louis Davies

The Man. The Musician. The Grin.

Born into a Musical Family, Louis Davies started playing Music in 1995. He started to play the Trumpet at Hill View Primary School, in Bournemouth, and in 1996, joined Dolphin Marching Band, also in Bournemouth, learning to play Drums.

In 1998, Louis joined his Secondary School Band, the world famous Oakmead Band and this is where he cut his teeth in Brass Banding. Louis rose through the ranks of the Band to become Principal Cornet of the Band, in his final year at the School. Whilst Louis played in Oakmead Band, he was also very active in the Bournemouth Marching Band Scene, where he was Principal Cornet of Peninsula Marching Band and Lead Drummer in Splitz Show Corps. 

At the ripe old age of 16, Louis joined the Corps of Army Music and studied Trumpet under Prof. John Hardy, Percussion under Prof. Paul Cameron and Theory under Prof. Berendina Norton. After 5 years in the Military, Louis left and dedicated his life to teaching Music. 

In 2008, Louis took the Baton at Ferndown Concert Brass, where he stayed at the helm for 8 years. At the time, Louis was 21 years old and believed to be the youngest Musical Director of a Brass Band in the UK, at the time. Louis has also been the Musical Director of Bournemouth Carnival Band and Somerford Sound (High Cross Cadets) Drum & Bugle Corps. Louis also arranges Music for Brass, Concert Wind and Marching Bands, with his music arrangements being used for important Parades and Investitures, as well as being used by Bands and Groups all over the World.

Louis has also appeared on BBC Television and Radio, ITV and Channel 4, as a Musician and has also played alongside acts including Andrea Bocelli, Isla St. Clair, Lulu, B*Witched and JLS. 

As a player, Louis currently plays Percussion in Bournemouth Concert Brass and Boscombe Salvation Army. He still continues his Marching Music and plays Snare Drum for Beeches Performance Ensemble, who are currently the British Drum Corps Champions and also 2nd in the European Drum & Bugle Corps Standings. Louis has also previously played with Downton Band and Woodfalls Band. Louis has worked under great names in the Brass Band World, such as Howard Evans, Nicholas Childs, Phillip Sparke, Steve Sykes and Melvyn White.

Louis has also been involved with a number of Recordings, including his most recent, in 2022, 'An Advent Journey' with Boscombe Salvation Army Band, under the direction of Dr. Howard. J Evans.

Away from teaching, follows Fulham Football Club, Poole Pirates Speedway and is a keen Member of his local Salvation Army Corps.
